Just Checking In!

I'm sorry that I haven't put anything on here lately. Like I mentioned earlier, we're having revival services this week at our church. Bro. Thornton has been doing a tremendous job singing and preaching.
This past week was our end of month / end of quarter run at work. That kept us moving pretty good, but we survived it.
I did get a bit of a break today. Mom & I did some running this afternoon - we went out to Friendship Bookstore and then up to Wal-Mart. The way Wal-Mart looked, you would have thought there was a weather forecast for a major snowstorm or something! Oh well!
It was pretty much just an ordinary day.
Thanks For Dropping In!

I'm Back!

Here I am again! I was having trouble with my computer over the weekend and couldn't get online with it. I could have used Dad's computer, but all I used it for was to check other blogs and my email.
We've been busy the past few days.
On Thursday evening we went to an auction. Dad went earlier and then Mom picked me up at work and we went up. I got a few things - a couple box lots of junk and books. I also bought a nearly new wood planer.
On Friday evening, we went to a revival service at the Beavertown God's Missionary Church.
On Saturday morning, Dad and Mom had some running to do and I stayed at home to study a Sunday School lesson. After they got home, we went to the Mifflin County Library book sale. I got quite a few books - mostly history books. The rest of the day was spent pretty much here at home.
On Sunday morning, it was my turn to teach the teenage Sunday School class at church.
Today, of course I was at work. While I was there, Dad spent some time for me and got my computer fixed. This evening, I spent some time in the shop and got to update my blog again!
Thanks For Dropping In!

Uncle Bob

This past Wednesday and Thursday, we traveled to Elizabethtown, PA for the viewing and funeral of my uncle Bob Spangler. I was honored to be asked to be one of the pallbearers for Uncle Bob. While it was good to get to see some of the family once again, it was unfortunate that it had to be under these circumstances.

In this picture that was taken quite a few years ago, Uncle Bob is participating in one of his favorite things, fishing. A conversation with Uncle Bob usually revolved around either Farming, Hunting, or Fishing - or all three!

Believe it or not, this picture was actually taken right below the Three Mile Island nuclear power plant!

Thanks For Dropping In!

This is the church where Uncle Bob's funeral was held.

When we're in the E-town area, we are always welcome to stay at my cousin Betty and her husband Dick's house. They live in the house where my aunt and uncle lived for quite a few years.

Here, Betty is cooking breakfast in her completely remodeled kitchen. It's beautiful!

Here's Dad, Mom and Dick eating the breakfast.
I was sitting over at the island in the kitchen since I wasn't going to be eating breakfast - although the peanut butter filled donuts were tempting!

Antique Machinery Show Time!

Today we went to the Nittany Antique Machinery Association's annual fall show. We arrived on the grounds a little before 10:00 this morining and left a little before 9:00 this evening. Yes, it was a long day, but it was also an enjoyable and relaxing day.
The picture at left is of the sawmill demonstration. The sawmill is being run by an old steam engine.
There are also demonstrations of the apple cider press, silage making, threshing machine, and hay baler - all antiques.

Of course you can't go to the show - at least we can't! -without going to the flea market. There was a lot of junk and there was some good stuff! Of course I don't think there were too many rows that didn't have at least one stand selling "Made In Taiwan" tools! As many of them as there are, I don't know how any of them do any good!

There are always several steam engines at the show. They are interesting machines to look at and watch. There was one there this year that was made in 1895!

There are always a few unusual tractors at the show. This one was a confederate tractor. Notice the bugle sticking up at the front of the tractor. There were bullet hole decals, two of the shift levers were swords, there was a gun mounted behind the motor, etc. This tractor was done by the same guy that took another tractor and put a Harley Davidson motor in it and dressed it up accordingly!

These two were joined by the tractor with 6 lawnmower engines - two that were half John-Deere and half Allis Chalmers - one that was a miniature log skidder - along with some miniature hand built tractors. They all add something to the show!

For the past several years, they have had a featured tractor. This year it was Ford. This is some of the Fords. There were more inside the tent as well as to the right of where this picture was taken.

This is a picture of some of the rest of the tractors. I believe there was a total of something over 300 tractors there this year.

One of the highlights of the day (notice I said ONE) is the tractor pull. I always enjoy watching this. I don't know how many tractors were pulling tonight. I thought this one was nice with the flags on it.

This guy had several tractors in the contest. He was also driving the tractor that was pulling the sled back down the track when he wasn't driving a tractor that was pulling.

After it gets dark, some of the steam engines take their turns at pulling. The pictures from that didn't come out too good, but I thought this one of one of the steam engines as it reached the end of the track was kind of neat.

This was the scene as we were leaving.

Labor Day Picnic!

It's Labor Day, so we went for a picnic.

We went to the beautiful Reed's Gap State Park in New Lancaster Valley. This isn't the picnic table that we usually use when we go there, but Dad and Mom found this one off by itself. I thought it was a beautiful place.

Look below for more pictures from our Labor Day picnic adventure!

Thanks For Dropping In!

Yes - those are actually flames that you see there!

It didn't look too promising for a while. Dad decided not to take any lighter fluid along because this was supposed to be some kind of instant charcoal stuff. The package said that it should be ready to cook over 10 - 12 minutes after lighting it. It took us longer than that to get it to actually burn! In the process we used almost 3 boxes of matches (some of them were too wet to light, so we used them for firewood) and I even tore up the one match box and put it on to try to get it to burn! This was along with the paper from the grill and the register receipt from the grocery store!

What do you know!

The grill finally got hot enough that we decided to try to cook the burgers!

Mom & Dad read while they wait for the burgers to get done cooking.

I think they probably got quite a bit of reading done!

Dad ended up with a "recliner" when he sat down in his lawn chair. Fortunately that bar was across the back legs or we might have found Dad on his back with his feet sticking up in the air!

After we ate, we were sleepy.

Here, Dad takes a nap in his "recliner."

Mom decided to take a walk.

Here - she returns. We're so glad she decided to come back!

Dad returns from taking his walk.

We're glad he decided to return too!

Time to head for home!

We had a great time - very relaxing!

We saw these horses on the way home.

If it looks to you like they're standing in a driveway, don't worry, it looks that way to me too! I don't know if anyone lives in that building or not.

This one was across the road from the other ones.

Ernesto Community Day!

Today was the day for the annual Burnham Community Day. This is a craft sale where we had a stand for several years. We were not going to attend this year due to me working full time now.
There was an article in yesterday's newspaper about the Community Day. The headline for the article was -Forecast Will Not Dampen Festival Part of the article said that one of the committee members acknowledged that heavy rains could interfere with attendance and some of the festival's scheduled events. I would say that the rain interfered very much with the attendance - both of vendors and customers. I wanted to go out around just out of curiosity. As you can see in the photo at left and the one below, there just weren't very many people there at 10:30 this morning, which is usually the busy part of the day. There were three stands set up. Besides the vendors, I think there were probably about 5 or 6 people there (not counting the fire police who were there to direct traffic - what traffic?! One of them was standing on the front porch of a nearby house! I think Burnham Community Day got turned into Ernesto Community Day!
Thanks For Dropping In!

This is the scene of the 2006 Burnham Community Day car show. As you can see, for some reason, no one was willing to bring their car to the show - I wonder why?!
