Yes - those are actually flames that you see there!
It didn't look too promising for a while. Dad decided not to take any lighter fluid along because this was supposed to be some kind of instant charcoal stuff. The package said that it should be ready to cook over 10 - 12 minutes after lighting it. It took us longer than that to get it to actually burn! In the process we used almost 3 boxes of matches (some of them were too wet to light, so we used them for firewood) and I even tore up the one match box and put it on to try to get it to burn! This was along with the paper from the grill and the register receipt from the grocery store!
